Solent Partners is offering people with an electrical or engineering background the exciting opportunity to step into the Solent’s thriving maritime industry with a new free training programme devised with some of the region’s most successful maritime organisations, including: Berthon, Sunseeker, Griffon Hoverwork, Wight Shipyard, Oyster Yachts and SEC Marine.
Rachael Randall, Chair of the Solent Growth Partnership’s Business Board, said: “The Solent region is a hub for maritime innovation and development. We know employers need more trained marine electricians to meet demands now and in the future which is why we are committed to supporting individuals to get the skills they need to join this thriving and exciting sector. This is a fantastic opportunity for people with a manufacturing, engineering or electrical background to upskill and transition into the booming maritime industry”.
“People taking part will learn essential marine electrical systems and gain the certifications needed to take on critical roles within this exciting field. With maritime operations across the Solent region expanding rapidly, this training offers a direct route into an industry that supports thousands of jobs and plays a key role in the UK’s economy.”
The Marine Electrician course is designed for professionals who are looking to enhance their skill set and career prospects, enabling them to move into the maritime sector. Aspiring marine electricians will receive free, industry-led training, helping to support the region’s growing demand for skilled workers in the marine sector.
Darren Everard, Managing Director of Latitude Recruitment, said: “As a specialist recruiter with the engineering and manufacturing industry, I’m well aware of the need the maritime sector has right now for marine electrician skills. It’s a great industry to work in with good salary and career prospects, as well as being based in great locations along the south coast.
There is high demand for electrical skills across Southern England, covering installation, site work and manufacturing industries. This is an excellent initiative from Solent Partners that will boost the pool of local available talent.
The Marine Electrician Skills Bootcamp is delivered by British Maritime Training and Assessment (BMTA) and offers a pathway into a career as a marine electrician. The course involves a combination of face-to-face and online learning, includes support with CV writing, interview techniques, and, on completion, guarantees an interview with local employers.
Applications are now open for those with a background as electricians, engineers, and similar professionals to apply for this free course. Businesses looking to upskill existing colleagues can also use this opportunity and will need to make a financial contribution to the training.
