Free training to challenge region’s care skills shortage

A free 10-week online training course is available to tackle the Solent region’s skill shortages in the care sector head-on, while boosting the skillsets of those who attend.

Fareport Training are offering employment opportunities through their Gateway to Care Skills Bootcamp, launching on 16 July 2024. The Skills Bootcamps, overseen by Solent Partners, is available for those aged over 19 who would like to enhance their knowledge in Health and Social Care. Learners will complete workbook evidence of the underpinning knowledge for the Care Certificate to take to their first employer.

Dubbed “dynamic” and “trailblazing” by Fareport Training, the fully funded initiative will deliver the online training to those living in the Solent region, including Eastleigh, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, the Isle of Wight, the New Forest, Southampton and Portsmouth.

Participating students will have the opportunity to attend 60 guided learning hours with adult social care experts and will also be being given access to strong connections to local Hampshire employers, free workbooks and guaranteed job interviews at the end of the course. Those who successfully complete the course will also receive a £100 Amazon voucher and personal development support.

Jodie Clark, Apprenticeship Team Manager at Fareport Training said, “This course is ideal for those unemployed, new to the care industry, or looking to enhance their current skills. It provides flexible, online training that allows participants to learn at their own pace, making it accessible to everyone.

“Participants will receive mentorship from experienced professionals who are eager to share their knowledge and expertise. The online format ensures that learners gain practical knowledge and skills, boosting their confidence and opening up new career opportunities. It’s a fantastic way to build on your transferable skills and reshape them for a successful career in the care sector.”

She added: “For employers, this course is an excellent opportunity to recruit and train more healthcare workers, ensuring staff are well-equipped to progress within the company and fill vacant posts. Plus for existing employees, it’s a fantastic way to enhance their current skillset in order to move up the career ladder. By participating, employers can help shape and influence care-related skills bootcamps to meet the growing demands of the industry.”

Solent Partners Chair, Rachael Randall, said: “The UK is facing a significant shortage of skilled care workers, with an estimated 500,000 additional workers needed by 2030 to meet the demands of an aging population. Now is the ideal time to pursue a career in the care sector, where job security and opportunities for advancement are abundant.

“The Bootcamp is an incredible chance to gain essential skills in the care sector. The hands-on training and theoretical knowledge provided will empower carers to make a real difference in their communities.”

Solent Partners is also partnering with the Isle of Wight College to deliver a free a 10-week course in Health & Social Care Skills for those living on the Island.
